about tania

Tania McCartney is an award-winning Australian author/illustrator of books for both children and adults. An experienced speaker, reviewer, magazine writer and editor (both book and magazine), she has been writing professionally (print and online) since 1988, and in 2009, founded Kids’ Book Review, the #1 children’s literature site on the web.

Tania has many years’ experience in book design and publishing, and has quite the picture book obsession--so much so, she wrote her own. She has another obsession--illustration--and her first self-illustrated book--Australia Illustrated--was released in November 2016 (a direct result of the 52-Week Illustration Challenge) and she has gone on to produce more than 65 books. See her latest books and other projects here.

A National Library of Australia house author and an ambassador for the ACT Chief Minister's Reading Challenge, Tania is passionate about juvenile literacy. Her books have been published in more than 20 countries. She has shortlisted or won many awards including the NSW Premier's Literature Awards, Australian Book Design Awards, World Illustration Awards, CBCA Notable Books, the CBCA Laurie Copping Award for Distinguished Service to Children's Literature and the SCBWI Crystal Kite Award for the Australia/NZ Region for Smile Cry.

Tania has lived in France, England and China, and currently lives in Canberra Australia with her family, a forest of artwork and a mountain of books.
